Our Washington Football Team Is One Win Away From A Division Title And A Trip To The Playoffs

That's all it takes. A win at home vs Carolina and the Ravens taking care of business against the lowly Giants, and our Washington football team, the Washington Football Team, are division champions and will be headed to the playoffs. Amazing. I never thought this was going to possible this year. Egg on my face, I'll own it. Hand up, when we were 1-5 with Kyle Allen starting at QB, I never thought this was going to be a possibility. But everything fell into place perfectly. And you know who gets most of the credit? Alex Smith. God damn is he special. The fact that he is playing, nevermind at a high level, nevermind turning the entire season around and leading this team to the playoffs? It's probably the most remarkable story in sports history. To go from nearly losing his leg, to nearly losing his life, to being one game away from the playoffs is so out of this world improbable, but yet here we are.

Obviously a ton of credit also goes to the defense for being lights out, to Antonio Gibson for how great he's been, the entire coaching staff, Riverboat Ron for turning around the culture very quickly, and doing this all despite the off-field distractions from dickhead Dan Snyder. Heh, Dickhead Dan, I've never typed that before but that's good. I like that.

We're not there yet though. A win is not guaranteed next week. We don't know Alex Smith's status, but if he was held out of the game yesterday as a precaution and will be fully ready to go next Sunday, I love our chances. But to be honest, I think Haskins showed enough in the 2nd half yesterday to win vs Carolina. He made some great throws, and while the 2nd interception was very bad, I think he showed enough to be able to win games in the NFL. But this team is best with Alex Smith under center, and that's who I'd like next week to take the division crown.

There's all sorts of scenarios where even with a loss we can still win the division, but I don't want to consider those right now. Let's just win, have the Cowboys and Giants lose, and pop champagne. And hey, who knows what happens next. This defense is playing good enough to beat anyone right now. The last 2 teams that made the playoffs with a losing record won their first game. And Riverboat Ron was the last coach to do so.

So hey, while anything can happen and I'm not celebrating yet, the WFT is one win away from the playoffs. Amazing. HTTWFT.
