The Bond That Is The #SonsOfUribe Has Never Been Stronger: Mets Sign James McCann To 4 Year Deal

I know it's not "officially" official yet, but Rosenthal says it's close so it might as well be official. I want to write this from a White Sox fan to Mets fans - you guys are getting a GREAT baseball player. Now, don't confuse that as a sexy/flashy/statfreak of a baseball player, because he's not, but James McCann is, without question, one of my favorite players the White Sox have had over the last 3-4 years, even though he was only with them for 2.

I'm not going to talk about stats too much at all right now. His numbers the last two years speak for themselves. This is what you're getting out of James McCann from the naked eye:

- a catcher who calls a fucking fantastic game
- a catcher who receives, blocks and throws well
- a catcher who knows the opposing lineup so well it takes all guess work and thinking away from the pitcher so all they have to do is focus on hitting spots with whatever pitch he calls
- a catcher who POUNDS left handed pitching
- a sneaky good athlete who can run a little bit for a catcher
- a hitter that uses all fields and hits gaps regularly

More than any of that, he's the consummate professional. Wouldn't be shocked if he's a manager one day. I know a lot of Mets fans wanted Realmuto, but after watching McCann for the last two years, you are in fantastic hands. He won't light up a stat sheet like a Realmuto, but he does sooooo many little things that make the weirdos that watch for all of the little intricacies and idiosyncrasies of catching and playing baseball in general like me love him. He does the shit that stats don't measure.

And I really do love him as a baseball player. There wasn't a fit for him on the White Sox roster, but I couldn't be happier he's about to get paid and be the main man somewhere. He's earned it and Mets fans will love him too. Sure, there are a few stats (BABIP, exit velocity, etc.) that could give one pause and make another scream "REGRESSION!!!" but I don't think you really have to worry about that stuff too much. He's just a quality, quality baseball player at arguably the most important position on the field and the Mets will be a better team today than they were yesterday.

Some Sox fans will think I'm being over the top with this post, but it's 100% sincere. I understand why some people wouldn't think this about him, but I do. I fucking loved watching him catch Giolito the last two years and it's bittersweet watching him move on.

The #SonsOfUribe bond has never been stronger. #LGM and FUCK the New York Yankees
