Football Guy Sam Pittman Says the Heisman Should Go to Alabama's Entire Offensive Line

It's not a shock to anyone that Alabama is once again head and shoulders better than the next-best team in college football and finds itself as the national title favorite heading into the SEC Championship Game. The Crimson Tide have two likely Heisman finalists in quarterback Mac Jones and wide receiver Devonta Smith — and if we were serious about giving the award to the best player in college football, it would go to Smith.

But it's neither Jones nor Smith who Arkansas head coach Sam Pittman thinks should win the award, though he does think it should go to someone — or rather a group of people — from the Crimson Tide. In true Football Guy fashion, Pittman thinks the Heisman should go to Bama's entire offensive line. That's some very big January 2015 Eastern Conference Player of the Month energy.

As a larger guy and former hog molly myself, I'm all for this. It's about damn time we quit rewarding the pretty boys for all their long touchdowns and numbers that wouldn't be possible without the dirty work from the big fellas up front. We recently had a woman play in a Power Five football game, but the Heisman Trophy continues its antiquated practice of giving the award solely to skill position players.

I'm glad Pittman was willing to stand up for the big boys and say what we've all been thinking for years. If it has to be Alabama, so be it, but it's time to reward an offensive line with a Heisman.
