Flyers Sign G Michal Neuvirth And Sexy Hexy Does It Again

And there it is. Neuvirth is the guy that the Flyers were looking to get and Hextall went out there today and got him. And at a pretty great price. It’ll be interesting to see how Neuvirth handles coming into Philly knowing that he’s there to be a back up but whatever. All last season Mason had to keep battling through injuries and coming back too early because there was literally nobody behind him that the Flyers could trust between the pipes. Neuvirth isn’t anything spectacular but it’s nice knowing that there will no be a decent option to turn to when Mason eventually goes down again. And that contract still leaves plenty of room for the Flyers to get some contracts renegotiated (re: Voracek and Del Zotto) so I’d be perfectly content if Hextall just decided to go take a nap for the rest of the day and not make any more moves–unless it involves moving Vinny. We got the guy we wanted, we got the guy we needed, and for once it looks like July 1st isn’t going to be the demise of this franchise.

Only two downsides to Neuvirth; 1) It’s going to be almost impossible for me to delete all the mental images of him being a Cap out of my memory. Still hate him for that. And 2) It’s so hard to spell his name correctly on the first try. Gonna be a long season of blogging. But here he is with a puppy which almost makes up for everything.

Sidenote: As I was blogging this, Phil Kessel was traded from the Maple Leafs to the Penguins in return for basically nothing. Fuck me straight to hell. Kessel to Pittsburgh and Saad to the Blue Jackets all in a span of 24 hours makes me want to puke. Luckily the Flyers have the best goalie tandem in the Metro now.
