A Top U.S. Official Says "China Is Attempting To Create Biologically Enhanced "Super Soldiers" Depicted In Films Like Captain America, Bloodshot, and Universal Soldier"

NBC - U.S. intelligence shows that China has conducted "human testing" on members of the People's Liberation Army in hope of developing soldiers with "biologically enhanced capabilities," the top U.S. intelligence official said Friday.

John Ratcliffe, the director of national intelligence, included the explosive claim in a long Wall Street Journal op-ed in which he made the case that China poses the pre-eminent national security threat to the U.S.

"There are no ethical boundaries to Beijing's pursuit of power," wrote Ratcliffe, a Republican former member of Congress from Texas.

His office and the CIA did not immediately respond to requests to elaborate on the notion that China sought to create "super soldiers" of the sort depicted in Hollywood films like "Captain America," "Bloodshot" and "Universal Soldier."

Don't look now, but while the rest of the planets been on pause and focusing 110% of its energy and attention on dealing with the Corona Virus so we can get back to normalcy, China is trying to create an army of Steve Wogers'.

This is fuckin terrifying stuff. Especially when you consider they actually have the technology, and lack of human rights, to pull something like this off.

Remember the scene in "Wolverine" with the Adamantium injection? That's what I'm picturing here-

Actually strike that, the Chinese got it right. The scene from "Captain America" is actually the perfect representation-

I wasn't really familiar with "Bloodshot" but upon viewing the trailer I might have to give it a whirl this weekend.

And "Universal Soldier" was a fucking great film, ahead of its time.

So all in all, 3 terrific movies to use as inspiration to develop real-world killing machines.

Last year, two American scholars wrote a paper examining China's ambitions to apply biotechnology to the battlefield, including what they said were signs that China was interested in using gene-editing technology to enhance human — and perhaps soldier — performance.

Specifically, the scholars explored Chinese research using the gene-editing tool CRISPR, short for "clusters of regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats." CRISPR has been used to treat genetic diseases and modify plants, but Western scientists consider it unethical to seek to manipulate genes to boost the performance of healthy people.

"While the potential leveraging of CRISPR to increase human capabilities on the future battlefield remains only a hypothetical possibility at the present, there are indications that Chinese military researchers are starting to explore its potential," wrote the scholars, Elsa Kania, an expert on Chinese defense technology at the Center for a New American Security, and Wilson VornDick, a consultant on China matters and former Navy officer.

"Chinese military scientists and strategists have consistently emphasized that biotechnology could become a 'new strategic commanding heights of the future Revolution in Military Affairs,'" the scholars wrote, quoting a 2015 article in a military newspaper.

CRISPR is the perfect science-fiction name to give an actual technology like this that could spell doom for the world.

Like Clem blogged earlier today, China has been crushing it this year.

They just planted their flag on the moon, even though our's has been there since 1969, like they give no fucks. Because they don't.

A couple weeks ago they claimed Italy was actually to blame for starting the Corona virus.

Before that they were accused of turning never before used microwave weapons against Indian soldiers in a border dispute. "Cooking them alive from the inside out"

(sidebar- I attempted to blog these things the past couple of weeks but got denied. Has the People's Liberation Army infiltrated Barstool now too?)

Yesterday they announced they have developed a quantum supercomputer that can, and will, outperform Google's supercomputer prototype by "ten billion times." TEN BILLION.

Google said last year it has built a computer that could perform a computation in 200 seconds that would take the fastest supercomputers 10,000 years. Chinese scientists claim to have built a quantum computer that is able to perform certain computations nearly 100 trillion times faster than the world's most advanced supercomputer, representing the first milestone in the country's efforts to develop the technology.

Also, they've developed "a nuclear sun." No joke.

France24 - China successfully powered up its "artificial sun" nuclear fusion reactor for the first time, state media reported Friday, marking a great advance in the country's nuclear power research capabilities.

The HL-2M Tokamak reactor is China's largest and most advanced nuclear fusion experimental research device, and scientists hope that the device can potentially unlock a powerful clean energy source.

It uses a powerful magnetic field to fuse hot plasma and can reach temperatures of over 150 million degrees Celsius, according to the People's Daily -- approximately ten times hotter than the core of the sun.

Ten times hotter than the core of the sun.

Figure that one out.

But no big deal right?

I'm not saying China is taking over the world (and space) but I'm not not saying it either.
