You Have to See This Umpire Who Literally Does Not Call Strikes
Ok, what the hell is going on here? Is this a bit or something? This umpire, possibly a long lost relative of Angel Hernandez, apparently got his feelings hurt at some point and made up his mind he simply would never call a strike again, regardless of where the pitch was.
The guy on the mound is Tomoyuki Sugano, who has been the best pitcher in Japan for a decade and is expected to be pitching in the Major Leagues in 2021. This is the equivalent of an umpire throwing a temper tantrum with Jacob deGrom or Max Scherzer on the mound. I know respect is a huge thing in Japan, but Sugano needs to channel his inner Scherzer to resolve this situation.
There's only one thing to do when you're getting treated like that by an umpire: the ol' whoopsie daisy, my catcher got crossed up and missed this fastball heading right towards the ump. Sometimes you just gotta do what you gotta do to make sure you're getting a fair game called back there. Or at a bare minimum, at least get some payback if you're gonna get squeezed like that.
Luckily for Sugano, he is expected to be playing in the Big Leagues next season, where the umpiring is the best in the world and there definitely aren't any umps who are easily triggered and would do something just like this.
