Shawn Kemp Told An A+ Story Of How Larry Bird Whooped His Ass

(story is right at the start, around 48 seconds)

If there is one thing on this planet that I will never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever get tired of hearing it's vintage Larry Bird trash talking stories. There have been a lot of great trash talkers in NBA history, from The Glove to MJ to KG to Kobe, and you bet your ass Larry Legend is right there with the best of em. What I love more than anything when I hear these stories is Larry didn't just talk the trash, he then went out and humiliated you just like he told you he would. He backed it up every single time and then some.

So to hear Shawn Kemp, The Reign Man, tell that story of his rookie season was fantastic. Now, I hate to ruin his great story with some facts, but Larry didn't have 50 in three quarters in that game his rookie season. He only finished with 40/11/10 on 17-27 shooting in 46 minutes. But you still get the point. What I love about this story is it gives you a glimpse into the mind of Larry Legend. You bet your ass he was going to get revenge for not only Kemp breaking his high school records but also dunking on his brother. That is fantastic. Hearing that Larry talked to him the entire game sounds about right if you've ever heard anything about his trash talking history

Ruthless, and I fucking love it.

Poor rookie Shawn Kemp. I guess he can take solace in knowing that he isn't the only one that got taken to the woodshed by Larry Bird. It's basically a right of passage for young player at that time in the NBA. What's crazy is that Bird was on the tail end of his career in 1989. He was 33, still put up 24/9/7 on 47% shooting, but would only play two more years after the 1989-90 season. One of my biggest regrets in life is I I wasn't born during the prime Larry Bird era. By the time I showed up in 1987 that era was on the decline, and by the time I had a functioning brain in the 90s, well that might go down as the worst era in the history of Celtics basketball. This haunts me every day of my life.

For my money, this was the perfect way to start my day. Now you could argue this was all just an excuse for me to be able to post my favorite video on the entire internet, and maybe you'd be right. Don't care though, there was nothing like Larry Legend and there never will be again
