America Once Again Fell In Love With UMBC's Darnell Rogers When They Found Out He's 5'2", Gets Buckets And Talks A Bunch Of Shit
This is now officially my favorite tradition in college hoops. It happened last year during the first day of games and now it happened again this year. Darnell Rogers, is a 5'2' - yep, 5'2" - guard from UMBC who gets buckets and talks a bunch of shit. Last year he went viral during the game against LSU:
Fast forward a year and here comes Darnell Rogers again - leading UMBC in scoring against Georgetown and making America fall in love with him all over again. It's not surprising that he's good. He's the son of Shawnta Rogers, who was the 1999 A-10 Player of the Year at George Washington. My only complaint is that Darnell doesn't follow his dad's lead who wore 54 because he was 5'4". If Darnell is out here rocking 52 because he's 5'2" he might pass Randolph Childress for my favorite college basketball player ever.
Darnell has been in the new forever. He was Harry Giles point guard on the AAU circuit and some of these quotes are just gems:
Rogers also constantly plays with aggression, trash-talk gusto and in-your-face defense. It's a sight to see, and I've been sitting with myriad coaches this week who've gotten a chance to watch him and be surprised.
"Going into the games people underestimate me, but after the game they've gotta respect me because what I do on the court," Rogers said. "I keep proving people wrong everyday. … I really can score, I can pass, I strap up."
I fucking love this guy. Go off short kings everywhere.
