Johnny Depp will still be paid millions for Fantastic Beasts 3, despite leaving the franchise after losing his libel trial against The Sun.
The actor will be paid at least $10m (£7.6m) even though he had only filmed one scene in the movie, which went into production in London on 20 September.
ICYMI, Johnny Depp was forced to resign from his role as Grindelwald by Warner Bros after losing his libel case in England. Just a quick refresher on that, he was suing News Group Newspapers, publishers of The Sun, for their article headlined "How can JK Rowling be 'genuinely happy' casting wife-beater Johnny Depp in the new Fantastic Beasts film?".
I'm not going to pretend to be an expert on the situation between Depp and Heard, so I won't tell you where to fall on that. But what is for sure is that a lot of nasty, verified, shit came out about both of them, but seemingly only Depp has been eating shit for it. Like I said in the last blog, though, this is essentially a win for him. The Fantastic Beasts movies STINK, and no longer having to be a part of them is a blessing on it's own. Add on the fact that he now receives a cool $10 Million for a single scene of work and this is now a massive double win for him.
It's also a rare triple loss for Warner Bros.
- They still have to make this Fantastic Beasts movie which will probably not be released in an ideal theater environment (if theaters even exist anymore when it comes out).
- They still have to Bobby Bonilla Johnny Depp an insane amount of money to not work.
- Lastly, they've mostly gotten shit for it (at least online) because public opinion has swung back neutral on Depp
