This Gambling Addiction Mural In South Philly Is Not Even Close To Degenerative Enough
PHILLY – A NEW MURAL depicting the path to recovery for Asian-American gambling addicts called “Fables of Fortune” will be unveiled tomorrow on Wolf Street near 7th, a few blocks from a trolleybus route to the SugarHouse Casino. “Gambling is a problem across cultures, but some research shows that casinos target Asian-Americans,” said Dr. Catherine Williams, program and operations director at the city’s Department of Behavioral Health and Intellectual disAbility Services. Williams said the mural project, located in the heart of Philadelphia’s Asian-American community, began four years ago when members of the agency’s gambling task force reported that casinos use special ethnic-specific promotions to attract Asian-Americans, putting them at risk for gambling addiction.
That’s supposed to keep people from the tables? Fat chance. That damn mural looks wayyy too bright and uplifting for a gambling PSA. If they want to keep people out of the casino it’s going to have to be a lot darker and degenerate than that. I’m talking rock bottom. What’s rock bottom, you ask? Try riding the Sugarhouse Express at 3am with $24 you just cashed in at the nearest Bottom Dollar Coinstar. Or how about asking for a CC advance from an Indian Casino and not giving a single hoot about the interest rate being 400%? There could be someone giving a dry handy for nickels behind the slots on that painting and a degenerate gambler wouldn’t bat an eye. Or they can just pinpoint any one of the Greek-level travesties that occurred in my Professional Poker Odyssey. The image imprinted on someone’s soul after hearing those tales would scar the most reckless of degenerates. Something – Anything would serve the community better than this mural.
PS – Nobody gives less fucks about money than Asians at a casino. Nobody. The way they roll out $100’s you’d think the currency in Asia is equivalent to Monopoly money.
