I’m going to try for a Halloween theme week here. Beginning with the artist whose work has been a staple of this time of year for me almost as long as I can remember.
While not overtly about Halloween, the late, great Warren Zevon’s music certainly captures the spirit of the season. His biggest album “Excitable Boy” in particular. From its title track that deals with prom murder and grave desecration, to the one that makes every party playlist, “Werewolves of London” to this one. “Roland the Headless Thompson Gunner” might be the best song ever written about a Scandinavian mercenary fighting an African war, getting his head blown off and then going on a revenge-fueled murder spree.
And if there was anyone who ever loved Zevon more than my brothers and me, it was David Letterman. RIP to this dark genius.
