Wake Up With SCTV’s ‘Half Wits’ hosted Alex Trebek

An all new season of “Jeopardy!” has returned with a healthy-looking Alex Trebek, reminding us that there are still some things in this world that are good and pure and worth believing in.

So it seemed like a good time to post one of the dozen or so memorable SNL “Jeopardy!” sketches but ultimately I decided to do a deeper pull. To the days of “Second City TV” when Eugene Levy creates the template of Trebek doing a slow burn at the unapologetic stupidity of his contestants that Will Ferrell would later do a direct copy of.

SCTV had the best cast in the history of American sketch comedy. Levy, John Candy, Catherine O’Hara, Rick Moranis, Martin Short, Dave Thomas, Joe Flaherty and Andrea Martin. So NBC in their infinite wisdom put them on Friday nights from 12:30-2 a.m. Now the show is largely forgotten when it should be trending on Netflix.

Anyway it’s great to have Trebek back in our lives.
