The 42-year-old “Mighty Ducks” star has marked more than 230 days sober and looks healthier than ever. His friend Drew Gallagher posted a photo update of Weiss on his GoFundMe for the actor and revealed he received a brand-new set of teeth courtesy of LA dentist Dr. Gabe Rosenthal.
After receiving various offers for dental work, the duo accepted Rosenthal’s offer of a “full dental makeover” with an estimated value between $50,000 and $100,000.
Today is obviously a harsh day, so hopefully this fantastic news can help lighten our collective moods. Weiss's struggles with addiction have been chronicled, sometimes kind of grossly, by news outlets over the last few years. According to the GoFundMe set up for him, the loss of his parents sent him into a depressive spiral that eventually lead to drugs. The pictures of him around the time of his arrest were fucking heartbreaking, and an poignant reminder of how dangerous addiction is. The good news is that, man, he looks great! 230 days sober is no joke, and kudos to that Dr. for the pro bono dental work because a sense of normalcy is incredibly helpful for recovery. Stories like this are amazing, and a reminder that a helping hand can turn someone's life completely around.
As someone that grew up around addiction, I can't stress how important it is to reach out for help not only if you know you need it, but even if you think you need it. Call 1-800-662-4357 or click here to see more information. Talking to somebody does such an unbelievable amount to help, and that goes for family/friends of people struggling with addiction as well. Programs like Al-Anon and it's sister programs a great resource in working through how to deal with addiction from that perspective, and help you feel a lot less alone.
If you want to help Weiss by donating to his GoFundMe, which helps him pay rent at his Sober Living as well as pay for groceries, you can do so here:
