Well, that’s it then. This isn’t Edna Krabapple or Mod Flanders dying from a t-shirt to the tits. Look at the characters Shearer voiced. Kent Brockman, Otto, Rev. Lovejoy, Lenny, Dr. Hibbard. How can the show possibly go on without these guys? Granted, you give me $300K an episode for 20 shows season I’d stick a ghost pepper up my butt and weep the voices out of my ass, but Shearer is finally valuing his artistic integrity over cold hard cash. I guess that’s very easy to do when you’ve made your trillions.

The beginning of the end should have started for The Simpsons around the turn of the century but somehow the show has lasted for 26 years. Now this should be the nail in the coffin. The Simpsons in its prime (Seasons 2-8) was, hands down, one of the greatest shows of all time. They’ve obviously watered down the product, but you still can enjoy the classics. I haven’t watched a new Simpsons episode in over a decade and have no plans to catch a new one anytime soon. And I share the same boat with the freaking creator of the entire series, Matt Groening. That says all you need to know about the current state and quality of the show. It was only a matter of time before something like this happened.

One of my favorite episodes ever, When Flanders Failed (at high speed cause I guess The Simpsons can’t snake enough money):
