Look, I blogged this morning that I'd rather not trade Mike Clevinger, but now that he's gone, he's gone. It's the same exact thing with Trevor Bauer and Corey Kluber (WOW, we've traded them all within one year -- and we STILL have the best staff in baseball). I didn't want to trade any of them at the time, but you're either with us or you're against us. GOODBYE, Mike Clevinger. And good riddance. You're a terrible teammate and a liar. Oh, and welcome to Cleveland to the 6 players we just picked up.
Listen, I only know two of these players from playing fantasy baseball, but the Cleveland Indians front office has earned my respect and there's no doubt in my mind that we're going to win this trade in the end. BUT, my initial response, underwhelming. They didn't have to blow up the farm or give up a stud. I mean, woohoo, Josh Naylor is the bat we got in this deal? The dude is batting .278 with 1 home run this season. Not mind blowing, especially when we gave up an Ace. To be clear: WE ARE IN FIRST PLACE. We need major leaguers now. Did we get any that are going to become a major force in this lineup? Eh.
I really hope this wasn't a quantity vs. quality type of thing. The Padres definitely got the best player in this draft. I just hope some of these prospects pan out into something special. Whether that be later down the road or right now….
Sooooo does having middle infield prospects mean that we're more likely to move Lindor now? Or this off-season at least. Or does it mean we're ready to wheel and deal still? Turn something from this trade into Joey Gallo from Texas and I'll be happier.
I hope the Indians aren't done today.
