Golf Digest- Last week, after his seventh consecutive finish outside the top 10, Rory McIlroy spoke about struggling to find a spark in this new, fan-less normal. Golf didn’t seem like the most important thing in the world. Perhaps we now know one reason why. According to comments made by Golf Channel’s Steve Sands on the air Saturday, McIlroy’s wife, Erica, is pregnant with the couple’s first child. Per Sands, the McIlroys are expecting a baby girl “any day now.” The couple first met during the 2012 Ryder Cup, when Erica Stolls—who was then working for the PGA of America—helped Rory make his teen time for a Sunday singles match after he overslept. They began officially dating in 2015 and were married in April 2017.
Well well well. Rory McIlroy is gonna be a dad to a baby girl soon. Pretty cool. Feels like we've been watching Rory forever at this point and now we get to see him take on the next stage of his life and become a father. Rory has always tried his best to keep his personal life private and this is no exception because no one even knew that his wife Erica was pregnant yet Steve Sands is reporting that she's due any day now. Obviously people are now connecting Rory's less-than-stellar play recently to not being 100% focused due to the fact that he's got a kid on the way and maybe that's true. Hard to concentrate 100% on golf when you've got your first kid on the way. That makes all the sense in the world, especially with everything else that's going on as well.
Remember back in 2012 at the Ryder Cup when Rory showed up 10 minutes before his tee time?
Of course you do. Everybody does. Well Erica was working for the PGA of America at the time helped rory make his tee time that day. They started dating a few yers later and the rest is history.
Congrats to Erica and Rory.
