Can Someone Do A Sanity Check On Willian? New Arsenal Signing Says The Club Plans To Win Champions League Within 3 Years.

Every once in awhile a tweet pops up across my timeline that seemingly makes the world stop as my jaw damn near breaks as it hits the floor. Usually, it's reserved for seeing something along the lines of a person from a distant country getting maimed in ways I didn't know were possible.

Other times, it's stupid ass shit like this that sends me into complete shock.

He has no time for those who argue he has taken a step down moving to Arsenal from Chelsea.

Well, that's because he literally can't argue that. Arsenal is very much a step down from Chelsea. One club is gonna be fighting for the top 4, potentially with title aspirations. Meanwhile the other is fighting, clawing, scratching their way to maybe get a Europa League spot, and a chance to play in the FA cup final. That's the pinnacle for the new Arsenal.

In his first major interview since signing, Willian told SunSport: “One of the reasons I wanted a three-year deal was to be part of a plan, not just a player passing through.

“When I talked with the manager he told me why he needed me for three years.

“It was that he first wanted to qualify for the Champions League and win it by the time I left. That was what I wanted to hear.

Willian is still good enough, sure, but he's off his fucking rocker if he thinks Arsenal will even sniff a Champions League Final. My man can barely get a corner kick past the first defender yet he somehow thinks he can lead Arsenal to a UCL Final? Yeah. Ok.

Willian couldn't even make it to the final when he was on Chelsea teams that won Premier Leagues but all of a sudden he can will a current day David Luiz and Mustafi to the final? What type of bizarro world are we living on? Did I miss the part where Arsenal turned into a fucking world-class side? Even if they would theoretically bolster their side within the next three years, these things don't just come to fruition. Especially at a club like Arsenal where the pressure is a bit higher for big signing to perform due to club recognition. Rome wasn't built in a day.

Realistically this just seems like a way of softening the blow for Willian. Selling him on a UCL pipe dream. Classic. I guess that's the only way you could get him to come to lowly Arsenal. That and he's getting a cool £220,000 a week to play at the Emirates. Am I upset that Willian didn't sign back with Chelsea? Sure, but mostly for sentimental reasons. I'm also an adult and can respect the hustle of getting a big bag from a mediocre club - selling them on all sorts of false hope - before you're too old and have to go to China to acquire a bag. It's not like Willian was the keystone that kept Chelsea afloat so they'll be fine without him.

PS- The only thing I can be happy about is that Willian didn't go to Spurs. Fuck Spurs. Not hearing this chant echo around the Bridge as Chelsea dices apart Spurs will be sad.
