The Top 9 Greatest Athletes That Can Also Act

This weekend I was introduced to the show Brooklyn Nine-Nine by a lady friend. Before I go any further, let me just say this lady is just a FRIEND. Nothing serious has happened. Yet. I couldn't tell you which episode it was called, but Andy Samberg had a beard, he got beat up in jail by a guard 3 times, and got his cell phone taken by a guard. But what really opened my eyes was watching one of my favorite actors Terry Crews perform. I completely forgot he played in the NFL for a few years and it made me think about more famous athletes that are great actors, or at least had a great cameo. Without further ado, here are the Top 9 Greatest Athlete Actors.

9. Willie Colon

I can't start the list without shouting out Willie! This is still one of my favorite videos from the former offensive lineman for the Jets and Steelers. The passion, the energy, the charisma! Willie has it all and has made it very easy to make it into my top 10 list.

8. Lance Armstrong

I can't say Dodgeball without saying "what a fucking movie". Truly one of the greatest movies, if not sports movies ever created. The scene where Lance Armstrong and Peter La Fleur are at the airport and Lances convinces Peter to finish the tournament is hilarious.

"So what are you dying from that's keeping you from the finals?"

So blunt and unexpected. It's even funnier now considering we all know what happened with Lance's doping scandal.

"If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball".

7. Danica Patrick

There's truly nothing better than Danica Patrick Go Daddy commercials. You know these commercials are amazing when I still have no idea what Go Daddy is. I just put my seatbelt on for their 30 seconds ads and enjoy the show. I remember when these commercials aired in 5th grade. It was the moment where I didn't want to play with toys anymore. Yeah I played with toys in 5th grade, didn't you? I had almost every WWE wrestler and ring ever created by Hasbro and had the greatest matches to exist in my basement! Anyways, this was a great marketing tactic by Danica to win over the guys and follow her racing career.

6. Shaquille O'Neal

The Big Diesel! What CAN'T this man do? 4 NBA championships, MVP, a franchisee of like 100 companies, cohost of TNT's NBA Pregame show, DJ, and has been in a shitload of movies. For some reason, the scene in Good Burger where Ed and Dexter deliver a burger to Shaq is my favorite scene of his. "You're not like other people are you?" Could you imagine how many people that would trigger on Twitter if that was said today?? I can't even imagine, but I've always imagined what a Good Burger tastes like. Probably somewhere between a Wendy's and Whataburger taste if you ask me.

5. Dave Batista

I've always loved watching Batista on Smackdown when I was younger! His battles against John Cena, Randy Orton, and Undertaker were phenomenal. I was completely sold on him when he became Drax in Marvel's 'Legends Of The Guardians'. I love his oblivious character throughout the series. Wow do I miss watching his Batista Bombs.

4. Terry Crews

How can you not like Terry Crews? Personally, Terry is my favorite athletic actor so I wasn't pleased to put him at #4. Whether it's commercials or movies like Old Spice, The Longest Yard, or Everybody Hates Chris, Terry has crushed them all. I still think Everybody Hates Chris is his best performance to this date. He's one of the most loving television fathers and is absolutely hysterical. Very hard not to like this man. Oh, and I had no idea he played in the NFL from 1991-1996. For how nice he seems, he's a linebacker I would not want to piss off.

3. The Rock

I feel like everytime I pump gas into my car, there's a new trailer for a movie starring Dwayne Johnson. There's so many movies from the former Miami Hurricane defensive end that it seems impossible to name them all. I went to Wikipedia Dwayne Johnson and the dude has his own URL for all of the movie's he's been in! The Other Guys, Fast and Furious, Jumanji, and Skyscraper are just a few to name that I thought were great. The Other Guys is so underrated.

2 Peyton Manning

My biased fandom for Peyton wanted me to put him at #1, but I had to be fair. The Sheriff. My childhood hero. One of the greatest quarterbacks in the NFL is one of the most entertaining actors and there's no denying it. Everything he does is a masterpiece. His SNL skits, the ESPY speeches, the nationwide and NFL Ticket commercials, they're all hits! It's ok to say Tom Brady is better than Peyton Manning, but you have to admit Peyton can make anyone laugh and can put on a show like no other. The United Way SNL skit will always go down as one of the greatest skits ever written.

Honorable Mention: Ray Allen

Maybe it's just me, but I thought Ray Allen's acting in 'He Got Game' wasn't the best. But that's ok because Jesus Shuttlesworth is a living legend. 2X NBA champion, one of the greatest 3 point shooters in the NBA, and the ability to get those white girls into bed with him makes him one of the greatest athletic actors in the world. Dude is so good at making 3's connect it's ridiculous.

1. Michael Jordan

It's a proven fact that if you star in Space Jam, then you are the greatest athletic actor in the world. No questions asked. Space Jam is one of the greatest movies ever created, but everyone knows that. Watching the Last Dance made me give more props to MJ when we saw he was filming Space Jam and training for the next NBA season at the same time. Not to mention the majority of his shoot was in front of a green screen where he had  to pretend there were about 10-15 cartoons surrounding you. I would've lost my mind, but that's another reason why MJ is the goat.

I'm pretty sure I'm missing Bruce Lee and Chuck Norris, but I don't see them as athletic actors. I just see them as Gods. This is my list and I think it's solid. I know I'm missing some older athletes so forgive me for being a youngster.
