The Yankees Are Handling Tanaka Perfectly Fine
NEW YORK (AP) — Yankees pitcher Masahiro Tanaka is going to be out at least a month because of tendinitis in his right wrist and a mild right forearm strain.
General manager Brian Cashman said Tuesday night during New York’s 4-2 win over Tampa Bay that tests showed no change in Tanaka’s partially torn elbow ligament. The Japanese star last year chose not to have Tommy John surgery and missed 2 1/2 months rehabbing the injury.
”We want to make sure this doesn’t lead to the more horrific problems that we’re all trying to avoid,” Cashman said.
I think we all know by now but Tanaka is headed to the DL with a forearm strain and they are saying it will be at least a month until we see him again. It sucks, but it could be a lot worse and he could be out for the year. The hope now is that with rest and treatment, whatever is wrong, will heal up and he will be able to get through the rest of the year in a productive fashion. If not, the Yankees got a few good starts out of him in a season where we needed a fast start. Either way the Yankees have invested a lot of money in this guy to be part of a “win now” team so if the doctors say he doesn’t need surgery, then he shouldn’t have it. The Yankees are always in win now mode so we will worry about next year, when next year comes.
The only people complaining are fans of other teams and old Red Sox players. The fans of other teams need to worry about their own shit, because they probably haven’t won in forever and anyone who says having Tanaka pitch like this is unfair, can relax. He has a huge pile of money the Yankees gave him that he can cry in.
Other News And Notes
Subway Series- The whole weekend had big game atmosphere and regardless of who the Yankees were playing, it’s important to win games like that. The fact that it was a series against the Mets was just the cherry on top and a chance to get a good look at Harvey.
Team Mustaches- I LOVE this move. The Yankees have always been an old school franchise that didn’t play around much but with Jeter retired, this is a chance to lighten things up a bit. Going into this season we basically had 25 strangers coming together so if starting to grow some mustaches together on a road trip makes them a better team, I’m all for it. Until Portnoy starts making money off of it, then I hate them.
The Team As A Whole- This is a good team, and if they can prove over the next few weeks they are legit, we’ll be getting Nova back, we’ll know where Tanaka stands, and we will have given Cashman enough proof that making trades will push this team over the edge. We didn’t spend a lot in the off-season so go get me Hamels, because its not my money we’re spending.
