The Only Subway Series Preview You Need
First things first, if you have any questions about the tailgate tomorrow click the picture above. If you aren’t coming, you messed up.
So this is it, everything Met fans have been waiting years for, a chance to play meaningful games against the Yankees. What a treat that should be for the lovable losers from Queens, who are coming in riding an 11 game win streak that no one saw coming when the season started. Congratulations to them, for showing fight that wasn’t expected for another year or two. Unfortunately, while you have been king of castle, big brother is coming home to give you a wedgie.
My running theory, is that the Mets and their fans are a group of premature ejaculators. Notorious for blowing their load early, they have been spitting all the right game to a hot girl at the bar and convincing themselves that “not this time” but just like the sun will rise tomorrow, they will blow their load early. The Yankees on the other hand are older, it takes us a little longer to get it up and sometimes we need the aid of drugs to get it up, but it gets up and it stays up. The only question is if we finish. Having said this, I have no problem guaranteeing that the Yankees will win this series and may actually sweep the series because there would be nothing more “Mets”, than to come crashing down in the Bronx.
Looking at the first game, DeGrom has looked great in his last 2 starts against what are essentially HS teams in MLB uniforms. The Yankees offense is really starting to click and most importantly, they aren’t giving up on games so there is no reason they can’t get 3 runs and knock DeGrom out in the 5th. Big Mike on the other hand, has not looked terribly impressive but has the ability to be one of the best pitchers in the game when he is on and I see him rising to the occasion against a weak Mets lineup. Final score: 5-3 Yankees
In game 2 we have Harvey coming in with a strained ankle, a boatload of preloaded excuses and a rough outing against the Phillies. Harvey has all the makings of a big game pitcher, who can handle the pressure of Yankee Stadium. The only problem is he wants to be on the other side. With his high emotions and about the surrounds and whatever is left over from his last start, I see a rough early inning getting the best of Harvey both on the scoreboard and in his head while getting his normal 6 innings and leaving with a tie game. CC on the other hand has been throwing the ball great and battling to eat innings, so I expect nothing different from him on Saturday with the Stoolies in attendance. The Mets will get a few runs off of him but I think a late inning run from the Yankees secures the win with Miller slamming the door shut. Final score: 5-4 Yankees
In the mop of game of the series we have Jon Niese’s nose on the hill for the Mets and although he has had some good starts, Cinderella is about to lose her slipper. Under the bright lights of Sunday Night Baseball, Niese is going to get shelled. I would imagine it will be a 3 inning start with 7 earned and the game in hand before Games Of Thrones finishes their opening credits. Which is really a courtesy to all of us watching at home. Eovaldi will have a rough start and not go deep but the bullpen should be pretty fresh to close this one out. Final score: 9-4 Yankees
So there you have it, the story of the younger brother who ran the halls of high school until big brother came back from winter break and rubbed your face in the snow in front of the girl you wanted to ask for prom. I wish Met fans the best for the rest of the season playing against a division of teams that might not makes the playoffs if the Bronx HS A division, but it’s last call on this little party you’ve been having.
