So apparently, we're all supposed to believe that Mike Tyson is going to get into a cage with a shark and fight it during Discovery Channel's Shark Week. Is there anybody who actually believes this?
Decider — To kick off Shark Week 2020, Mike Tyson will be getting into the cage with a live shark “in the name of research,” Discovery says. Tyson and the shark will go head to head as famed ring announce Michael Buffer calls the matchup, hopefully from a safe distance away.
In a statement, Tyson reveals that he had a “fear of getting back into the ring at 54 years old,” but the Tyson v Jaws: Rumble on the Reef matchup helped him to overcome that aversion. “I learned from this experience doing Shark Week that whatever intimidates me, I am still able to step up to the challenge of overcoming anything,” he says.
I don't watch Shark Week because I'm not 12, but I can't wait to see the internet lose its collective mind when the people who actually think Mike Tyson is going to fight a shark see whatever this actually ends up being. It sounds like it's already been recorded, so the shark doesn't win, which would be the only reason to tune into this.
Remember years ago when they said Michael Phelps was going to race a shark and then he just swam normally and they put a CGI shark on the screen?
When you have to hype up whatever this "fight" between Mike Tyson and a shark ends up being, you know Shark Week is played out. I'm sure a week of shark content on TV was great when the internet didn't exist, but now I have much more entertaining things to do than watch Mike Tyson fight a CGI shark.
Discovery Channel has officially jumped the shark with this one.
