Ted Leonsis Says Verizon Center Will Be Louder And Classier During Game 5

WaPo - Capitals owner Ted Leonsis has weighed in on the great debate about whether Verizon Center or Nassau Coliseum is a louder playoff venue. In no surprise, Leonsis sided with the D.C. crowd, vowing in a Monday blog post that Verizon Center “will be louder.” Leonsis also says the Capitals’ home crowd will be “well behaved and classy,” a response to the reports that a group of Capitals fans who attended Sunday’s Game 3 on Long Island were subjected to racist and homophobic taunts, as well as threats of physical violence. The series returns to Verizon Center for Game 5 on Thursday and Leonsis is confident Capitals fans will “take the high road.” “But also know we shall be louder,” he writes.

I’m really proud of our boy KFC. Big week for him. First he learned that NHL arenas are loud, especially Nassau since it’s about the size of a treehouse. Then next he learned that NHL players chirp at each other on the ice and talk shit, woah! And tomorrow, we might teach him what icing is.

There’s no denying NC was fired up and loud yesterday. It definitely adds to the game watching experience. And despite all the crowd noise…wait real quick though, they fucking chanted DE-FENSE! DE-FENSE! I guess that’s what happens when Jets fans hop on the bandwagon because the team is finally somewhat good? Too little too late, going to be hard to chant anything when they are in playing in front of hipsters in Brooklyn next year. Also, loved the HOLT-BYYYYY chants when he was dominating. But anyway, as I was saying, the crowd was loud. But Verizon can be louder. The thing that fucking sucks is a lot of the lower level seats at Verizon are government/corporate seats because we live in the richest part of the country. Sorry we brush our teeth and shower down here. I guess that’s the trade off we make to act like civilized humans? I’ll take it any day.

I understand the criticism from game 1. Crowd was weak. Game 2 was better. And when the Caps win game 4 tomorrow and come home for game 5, the place is going to be ROCKING. But we won’t also rape your women and steal your children on the way out.
