So Deadspin just posted another one of their hard hitting #LOLCUBS pieces about Wrigley Construction. This time focusing in on this new “autograph shield” outside of the stadium.

Holy cow! It may be a beautiful day for baseball in Chicago, but for fans seeking a close-up glimpse of their favorite Cubs player these are dark days indeed. That’s because, as reported over on the very essential Wrigley Renovations Twitter account, the club erected a barrier to keep fans from interacting with players—all under the guise of “making the confines friendlier.”

This ladies and gentleman is what it looks like to grasp at ALL the straws. Yes Wrigley is a mess right now, it’s a construction site, construction sites usually aren’t the most visually appealing places because…….they are under construction. But this is just pathetic. The Cubs set up a barrier so sleaze bag autograph seekers can’t accost players on their walk to their cars and Deadspin basically makes it out to be the Cubs fucking up yet again. What? This is a good thing. If I’m a player I don’t want to be bothered when I’m trying to leave the stadium. You get autographs during Batting Practice, that’s the appropriate time, not when players are trying to exit the stadium post game. I don’t know what it is but Deadspin’s infatuation with the Wrigley renovations is becoming laughable. I’ll fully admit when the Cubs fuck up, I’ve done that a million trillion times, but this isn’t one of those times. And it isn’t just Deadspin, I’ve seen sites and newspapers laugh at the Cubs every step of the way, it’s stupid, the construction will take time and things may not look great, anyone who makes a big deal about this “autograph shield” is specifically trying to make something out of nothing and those type of people are the worst.
