The Picture Of Matt Harvey Staring Down Chase Utley Is Spectacular

I cant even describe how much I love what went down last night. In a dirty, ugly, grimy game, the Mets walked away with a W and Matt Harvey made a statement to his teammates and the rest of the league:

The New York Mets are my team and you will not fuck with them.

There’s always been so much speculation surrounding Harvey and his loyalty to the Mets. How he wants to be a Yankee one day. How he’s a Boras guy and he’s going to go wherever the money is. And I’ll admit, I kind of believe all of it. I very very easily can see a scenario where Harvey bounces and doesnt think twice. But last night was a clear message – while he’s here, this team belongs to him. You’re not gonna push this team around when he’s on the mound. There will be retaliation. There will be consequences for your actions.

Utley had a monster night. 2 bombs. Harvey didn’t have his “best” stuff. (6IP and 8Ks for an off night is just straight up silly) But he still sent a clear message to Chase and the rest of the Phillies. And the stare down afterwards made it a hundred times better. Again on a night when he wasnt his sharpest and had been taken deep a few times, Matt Harvey didnt give a fuck. Two of his guys had been plunked. He knew what he had to do, and he made sure everyone knew it was intentional. Fucking LOVE it. As long as his career continues to progress in the way we all know it will, that will be an indelible image of Matt Harvey. Right up there with the picture of him with a mouth full of chew and blood running down his face. Its the fire, anger and tenacity that Mets fans have been waiting for. Matt Harvey officially owns this city.
