Of Course Jordan Spieth Won The Masters, He's An Orioles Guy
Sun - It might not be as commonly searched on Twitter as his girlfriend or his hair, but Jordan Spieth’s photograph as a 4-year-old in an Orioles jersey in a montage following his Masters victory Sunday got plenty of buzz on the Internet in these parts. As the Washington Post pointed out, Speith’s parents are from Pennsylvania, so it’s not inconceivable that they could have had him rooting for the Orioles as a kid in Texas. The connection goes a little deeper too, though a pre-school-aged Spieth wouldn’t know it then. Spieth has an endoresment deal with Baltimore-based Under Armour and appeared with Cal Ripken Jr. on a panel at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas on behalf of the company.
Goes without saying, but Spieth only won the Masters this weekend thanks to being an O’s fan. The most tweeted picture of him over the weekend was the above one, him as a kid swinging away decked out in his Ripken jersey just a couple months after Tiger won the Masters in 1997. That was the official passing of the torch. It wasn’t last year when he finished 2nd. It wasn’t yesterday when he put on the Green Jacket for the first time. It was that day in 1997 when he wore the jersey of the greatest. That’s the power of Baltimore.
