Red Sox Blast 5 Home Runs, Begin Pursuit Of 162-0 Season
I honestly have no idea why teams would even bother to show up against the Red Sox for the rest of this season.
Before you go on about how the Phillies suck — which they do — that was Cole Hamels that they emasculated out there today. He, as you may have heard sixty or seventy thousand times this offseason, does not suck, and the Red Sox made him look like a guy that forgot his L-screen out there today for batting practice.
If there’s any performance that you want to somewhat discredit because of the Phillies suck factor, it would be Clay Buchholz going seven three-hit, shutout innings with nine strikeouts. But even then, he had all of his pitches going for him, and if that were against a real American League lineup, he still would’ve turned in a winning performance with that home run derby going behind him. Buchholz seems to be an every-other-year kind of guy in terms of performance, with 2013 being the year that he easily could’ve started the All Star Game for the American League had he not gotten hurt. This is his year when he’s not supposed to suck, and he’s off to a good start.
It’s the most cliche phrase in professional sports, but “if they stay healthy”, I really don’t see how this Red Sox team doesn’t become the first team since the 2009 Yankees to finish the season with 900 runs, and that’s not an exaggeration. Even with how many uncertainties there are within the Red Sox rotation, it’s pretty evident now that this offense is more than capable of bailing out their pitching staff, on any given night, if they’re unable to turn in a quality start.
One down, 161 to go on the Red Sox road to the first 162-0 season in MLB history.
