The WSOP Will Be Awarding 85 Online Bracelets To Players All Around The World...And Nevada and New Jersey In The United States

WSOP - With the flagship World Series of Poker (WSOP) postponed in Las Vegas due to the public health emergency involving COVID-19, today organizers announced “World Series of Poker Online,” an online poker festival spanning two months. Set to be one of the largest online tournament series of all time, “WSOP Online” will offer players massive prize pools, unprecedented media coverage for online events, and the chance to win gold bracelet glory across two distinct gaming platforms, and GGPoker.

Wow, sweet, 85 online bracelet events, totally awesome, right?!!?

Well, it should be. It should be totally awesome. But alas, as we know, it's not quite *that* awesome. Reason being? America's online poker laws, of course.

Kicking off Wednesday, July 1, the “WSOP Online” tournament’s North American network will schedule one bracelet event a day, throughout the month of July. allows play from customers geo-located in Nevada and New Jersey.

Ah yes, but of course. The friendly reminder that if you want to win an online WSOP bracelet event this summer, you have to be 2 out of all 50 states- New Jersey or Nevada. Womp womppppppppppp.

Every time I do one of these damn blogs I get depressed all over again. It just makes zero sense that out of everything that is legal, for some reason, the United States refuses to federally legalize online poker. Leaving it up to states is good in theory, but the amount of red tape and nonsense states have to go through to legalize is agonizing.

Not having the WSOP this Summer is such a kick in the dick. It's my favorite time of the year. I always get good content out of it. And I love making runs in poker tournaments (just blogged about my love of tournaments while I was bored the other night). It's bumming me out just thinking about how exciting it is to be back in Vegas every Summer, going for the glory.

And then as I said, players all around the world will be able to compete for a bracelet as well:

On Sunday, July 19, official “WSOP Online” bracelet tournaments will commence on the GGPoker Network, one of the biggest and fastest-growing online poker providers in the world. The international series will run through September 6 and mark the first time that players outside the U.S. have been able to compete for an official WSOP bracelet online.

So hey, good luck to the grinders in Uzbekistan. But if you live in New York, Texas, Florida, or basically most anywhere else in the USA, go fuck yourself.

Vegas is open though, so 2nd wave permitting, maybe we'll be back in the Winter?

A boy can dream.
