Sturgill Simpson Says That He Is Releasing TWO Bluegrass Albums This Year

BIG news out of the Sturgill Simpson camp. Sturgill put on a benefit concert the other night live from an empty Ryman theater and streamed into homes across America. A concert that was back to Sturgill's roots. That video above was just a little taste. Big band, old song, new sounds. It was spectacular and the type of music that made Sturgill one of my all-time favorite musicians. And apparently...we are getting more. From Whiskey Riff...

(Whiskey Riff)--“In 7 days, you guys raised $248,117 so here we are live at the Ryman Auditorium, in front of absolutely no one, playing with, it’s not even really up for debate, I think we’ve assembled most likely the greatest bluegrass band on the planet for you guys tonight.”

“The second part of that promise was giving you guys a record this year, so me and all of these wonderful ladies and gentleman have been in the studio all last week recording a great majority of my back catalog from the four records I’ve put out… I want to be a bluegrass musician because that’s the music in my heart and soul, that’s the music I was raised on so we’ve been cutting all these songs again bluegrass style… I’m putting out two records. We’re gonna put out a volume 1 and a volume 2 this year… so look for that this fall hopefully.”

His tour with Tyler Childers, which would've been incredible, was canceled due to Coronavirus, but getting two albums this year feels like a good trade all things considered. If you didn't like Sturgill's latest album and the sound of it, then this is GREAT news. I'm excited to hear a studio version of this because the concert was awesome. Listen here now
