College Chick Trying to Prank Her Roommate By Throwing a Firecracker at Her Sets The Whole Place on Fire

ALLENDALE, Mich. –An attempt at April Fools humor turned into a fire that led to the evacuation of an apartment unit near GVSU in Allendale. Units from four fire departments were called to an fire in an apartment at 4932 W. Campus Drive near the campus of Grand Valley State University. Fire officials at the scene told FOX 17’s Jessica McMaster that four girls live inside the apartment. He said one of them tossed a firework at a roommate, which landed in a laundry hamper, igniting the contents. The girl isn’t expected to face any charges. No one was hurt.

Capt. David Pelton, with the Allendale Fire Dept. said in all his years on the job, he’s never been called to a fire that was the result of an April Fools’ Day prank. Units from departments in Allendale, Blendon Township, and Georgetown Township were heard being called to the scene. The fire was reported to dispatchers by fire units as being knocked down around 9:45 a.m. The fire started in apartment Red B-4, and some students told FOX 17 that they never heard an alarm.

I’m not sure if there’s a more stereotypical and girly way to screw up April Fools. First off, let’s all agree that it was a massive overreach for a bunch of girls to try to prank each other with fireworks. Chicks don’t have bottle rocket wars or roman candle fights or toss firecrackers at each other in the shower. That’s pretty strictly immature, dumb guy territory. I’ve literally done all of those things both indoors and out and never once burned down an apartment. I can’t grow hair in some random patches on my legs but that’s about it. Then the fact that the toss went so poorly that it landed in the hamper full of clothes is classic girls throwing things. Hey Becky, it’s a cherry bomb! April Fools! *throws it. goes directly sideways, St. Elmo’s*. And to cap it off you’ve got 4 roommates running up and down their apartment complex asking for a fire extinguisher instead of just smothering it like any sane person would have done. Maybe let’s leave the stuff involving fireworks to the fellas and the gals can stick with pranks like switching out the label on a Vanilla Cupcake scented candle for, gasp, a French Vanilla one (true story: I know girls who have done this and they thought it was hilarious).

P.S. Love the fire captain saying he’s never had to put out a fire from an April Fools’ day prank before. Just like the tow truck guy who came by after this video had probably never had to pick up an overturned vehicle that crashed at 5 mph before
