[Source] - “Let me just say how do you get to 20 [teams in the bubble] though? Because if you just go by the straight records, because to me, this is what I’ve already heard, alright. I’ve already heard people in this league say this is an elaborate game to get Zion Williamson into this bubble…
“I’m not saying the NBA is going this route, I’m just saying I’ve already heard this scenario that no matter what happens, the cutoff line will be the Pelicans. They’ll be in.”
In the words of Big Cat and PMT ... uhh, ya think? Why wouldn't the NBA expand the playoffs to include one of the biggest names in the sport? You know what drives these leagues? Money. You know what brings money in? Stars and people watching those teams with names that everyone knows. That's what Zion is. He's arguably the most hyped and most known rookie since LeBron. He was damn good in the games we got to see him play too. Now multiply that even more with the playoffs and more people will be intrigued to tune in to watch Zion.
I'm not even mad. We shouldn't be! We should want to watch the biggest names and best players in this sort of setting. That's why this group stage similar to the World Cup that has been proposed is so damn intriguing. Expanding the playoffs, giving us that feel of needing to win while still getting games going is awesome. Same goes for the play-in tournament for the last two seeds. You're telling me you wouldn't want to watch Luka vs Zion and Dame vs Ja for the last two seeds? Those are 4 of the biggest names and 3 of the best young stars in the game.
I don't even want the NBA to hide it. Just need Adam Silver to come out and be like uhh yeah guys we're a business, we like money. Zion being in this will bring us even more money. It's just smart business at that point. And let's not pretend like this is just an NBA thing either. Every league would make a decision like this to put one of the biggest names in an expanded playoffs. We're in weird times, so you can do this sort of shit and it makes sense. Well actually now thinking about it, there's 0% chance the MLB would make the right decision here.
