Because people have to be pissed off about everything in life, this Australian woman is getting blasted for packing her husband's lunch that he takes to work. Something so innocent that people freak out about it. Whatever, I support her. You wanna pack a meal for your significant other so they can sleep a few extra minutes or not rush, by all means do your thing. Shit, she even admits it's cheaper and healthier for her to do this knowing that her husband will probably just hit up Chipotle 3 times a week.
That's not what this blog is about though. This blog is about breaking down the perfect packed lunch. Yeah, everyone will have their own variations about what's right, but that's the point. You need to argue about right answers only. I started thinking about this build your own $15 team of lunch from KFC
We're going to ignore that, but KFC was on the right path. This is going to be an honest lunchbox build. I'm talking obviously from the 90s and what you'd want packed as a kid (and let's be honest, even now). It's going to be the standard lunch pack - the entree, a couple snacks and a drink. No we don't get to have alcohol, because we're kids in this scenario.
Main entree - Chicken sandwich, cheddar cheese, mustard, mayo, pickles, whatever bread is available
I know Lunchables were hot in the street, but a good homemade sandwich? That gets my vote 100 out of 100 times. It needs to be the proper amount of cheese to chicken ratio here. Also plenty of pickles, preferably the chips. Toss those bad boys on and you have yourself a solid sandwich.
Snack 1 - Fruit Gushers
The key to a perfect balanced lunch? Fruit snacks. You need your favorite. They acceptable answers are Shark Bites, Fruit by the Foot, Fruit Roll Up, Scooby Snacks and of course Gushers. They are the top tier of these all, even if there's a glaring flaw with the Gushers:
Recently came home from the grocery store with Gushers, opened up a pack and this is what I saw. That's criminal. You need to at least have double these in a pack.
Snack 2 - Nutty Bars
Arguably the most underrated snack you can have at lunch. It's a bit on the heavier side but with the two other snacks I picked it's a must. Plus it's peanut butter and chocolate. Who the hell doesn't like that? The key though is keeping Nutty Bars cold. They gotta be in the fridge as long as possible.
Snack 3 - Dunkaroos - vanilla wafers with vanilla/sprinkles
You're not packing a lunch correctly if you don't have Dunkaroos. The GOAT 90s snack.
Drink - Orange Gatorade
I'm a basic drink guy. Give me a nice cold orange Gatorade. I don't need anything crazy, give me the classic. But the key is I need to find one of the 90s squirt bottles that Gatorade used to come in. I'm talking this 96 version
Leave your perfect packed lunch - because it's always better when someone else packs for you - in the comments or on Twitter. Oh, and if you blast this wife for packing her husband a lunch you fucking suck. Who cares?
