Get a load of this guy. I knew when the Falcons hired another retread failure for an offensive coordinator that the on-field product would suffer, but I had no idea they had also hired a certified moron who says things to the media like, "Even we're not sure if the running back we signed is healthy enough to play. LOL."
I don't even care about the actual content of what he said. Anyone who has watched football the last two years has seen that Todd Gurley's health is the only thing standing in his way of being one of the best running backs of all-time. But you don't come out publicly and say that even your own evaluators who decided to give this guy $6 million this year have no idea if he's healthy or not.
Koetter was a head coach. He should have a much better idea than most how to speak to the media and that ain't it.
This is the franchise — and largely the same coaching staff — which lost a Super Bowl it was almost mathematically impossible to lose, so I suppose comical missteps like this shouldn't come as a surprise. Yet, I am consistently in awe of how they continue to make things worse.
I still stand by my assertion that Gurley could have a great season this year. He's still just 25 years old and is coming back to the South, where he went to high school and college, and is on a one-year, prove-it contract. But apparently I'm just taking as much of a stab in the dark as the Falcons were.
