[ESPN] - Did Scottie Pippen's ratings in the game really drop when he played certain teams?
It's true, but only when the Bulls played the Pistons. If there was a close game and anyone on the Bulls took a last second shot, we wrote special code in the game so that they would average out to be bricks. There was the big competition back in the day between the Pistons and the Bulls, and since I was always a big Pistons fan, that was my opportunity to level the playing field.
One of the few things I love as much as watching basketball is playing NBA Jam. I will argue I'm one of the top NBA Jam players in the world. No doubt about it in my mind. We had it in college including one of my favorite bets with a roommate involving having to play with every team in the game. Get you out of your comfort zone.
But this? This fact from 2008 circulating again because of The Last Dance just became my favorite story out of the thing. Just finishing above Carmen Electra still being a fucking rocket. Why? Because I'm here for hatred. I want a fan of the Pistons developing the greatest basketball video/arcade game of all time purposely screwing the Bulls. The fact Scottie Pippen's rating dropped when he played the Pistons is unreal. Wish there was something that popped up that he had a migraine.
Oh and the definitive list of the 5 best NBA Jam teams:
5. Utah Jazz (Karl Malone/John Stockton)
4. San Antonio Spurs (David Robinson/Sean Elliott)
3. Golden State Warriors (Tim Hardaway/Chris Mullin)
2. Phoenix Suns (Barkley/Majerle)
1. New York Knicks (Starks/Ewing)
It's pretty simple. The best teams to play with had a big that could block shots/rebound and a guard you could shoot with. And act like I'd put someone over the Knicks here. Those are the 5 best teams you could play with. There was also a cool factor. Sure, Malone/Stockton might have been the best duo, but they weren't cool. Barkley/Majerle were cool.
I wish NBA Jam made a comeback. Think of the teams we could have now. AD/LeBron, Kawhi/Paul George, Ja/JJJ, Dame/CJ, RJ Barrett/Kevin Knox. I'd play the shit out of the game, but it would have to start strictly as an arcade game. in fact, put that in arcade bars for when we're allowed to go back out. I will spend so many quarters there if I have to.
Oh and always put in a code like this that would keep the Bulls bricking buzzer beaters.
