We have talked about the Brick Tournament a few times on Spittin' Chiclets, but for those who don't know, it's one of the top youth tournaments played in the entire world. Teams from all over the world come to Edmonton in July to play a tournament in the West Edmonton Mall. Yup, that's right. They have hockey rinks in the malls in Edmonton. But the tournament has been going on for 30 years and has had over 200 NHL players play in it as kids.
Some notable names who have played in the Brick Tournament:
None better than Johnny Hockey though. The highlights are actually hilarious to watch. Imagine being a parent on one of the other teams? You just flew your 10-year-old across North America to play in a hockey tournament that takes place in a mall, only to have the smallest kid in the tournament, who only eats ham & cheese sandwiches, put up a 6 spot on you in the first period.
You could put 10-year-old Johnny Gaudreau on any beer league hockey team around America and he would be the best player on the team. You see his C-cuts?? You see his puck control? Crossing paths with 10-year-old Johnny Hockey would have been a full blown nightmare and probably would have made me quit hockey.
