I Don't Know What's Funnier - The Fact a Morning Radio Show Was Set To Launch This Morning Called "The Man Cave"...or The Fact That After Weeks Of Promoting It, Dan Snyder Found Out About It On Friday And Canceled The Show Before It Even Started Because H

DCSB - Multiple people who work in the local radio industry said Sunday morning that “The Man Cave”  a new morning drive program co-hosted by Chris Paul and former Washington Post columnist Jason Reid  will not make its planned debut on ESPN 980 Monday morning. It remained unclear when or if the show would air. The station had announced the creation of the new show Feb. 20, with plans for Reid and Paul to be integrated into ESPN 980?s programming and to contribute to a variety of the station’s shows. But by then there were already whispers in the industry that something was amiss. One person at Redskins Park said the widespread perception was that top Redskins officials were miffed by the hiring of Reid, a sometimes harsh critic of the team in recent years, although it’s unclear if that contributed to the show’s status. Owner Daniel Snyder also owns ESPN 980, which has a studio at Redskins Park and broadcasts the team’s games.

Quite honestly this is one of the more bizarre media stories in some time.

Here are the basics: There are two sports stations in town: 106.7 The Fan, which most people listen to, and then ESPN 980, an AM station for old people. A few years back, Daniel Snyder bought 980 so he could air Redskins propaganda on his very own radio station. Now flash forward to a few weeks ago: It is announced, un-ironically, that 980 will launch a new morning drive show called “The Man Cave”. YES! Finally a morning drive show for men! At long last! It was to be hosted by a stand up comedian you’ve never heard of and Jason Reid, a Washington Post columnist who has done his fair share of Redskins bashing in his time. To be fair, it’s hard to live in this town and not bash them, as they’ve won 7 games total in the last 2 seasons.

And now flash-forward to this weekend. Daniel Snyder catches wind of the fact Jason Reid is going to have a show on the station he owns. So he pulled the cord on it and fired the program director at the station. WOAH. Lil’ Napoleon complex Snyder does it again. I mean I kinda get it- Snyder doesn’t want to pay someone who bashes the Redskins. That’s why Chris Cooley will always have a job at 980. But these two guys who were set to launch The Man Cave (seriously, that was the name) are now out of a job. It’s just another shitty, shitty Dan Snyder move. He sues season ticket holders, he charges $40 for you to walk 3 miles to the stadium to watch a terrible football team, and now he fired a bunch of people who he hired he run his radio station. It’s pretty pathetic. I’m pretty sure Reid left his job at the Post to host this show. The PD is now looking for a job. Because Snyder did what Snyder does best and put his grubby hands where they don’t belong.

And it kind of all makes sense. The Skins hired a real GM. Snyder was watching the Eagles make all those moves last week and was losing his mind. The Skins only signed 3 guys in free agency, and all of them to pretty reasonable deals. Snyder could not sit around twiddling his thumbs. He had to shake something up. So he was bored and looking at the all the failures he owns (6 Flags, Johnny Rockets, ESPN 980) and saw he could fuck shit up at the radio station. And that’s exactly what he did.

So the moral of the story? Never, ever work for Dan Snyder in any capacity. He’s a terrible person. Remember the story about him giving his employees a bag of apples as a Christmas bonus? Shit doesn’t change with him. Nothing will ever change. Fuck Dan Snyder, fuck him until his ears bleed.
