Luck of the Trojan: (3) USC Outlasts (9) Notre Dame 48-45 in South Bend

Monday night marked USC's toughest test of the regular season so far. But when it was all said and done, the No. 3 Trojans moved to 8-0 after taking down No. 9 Notre Dame 48-45 in South Bend.

It was a solid start for Offensive Coordinator Gus Duggerton and company, as QB Chaz Kyle continued his hot stretch, especially in the red zone.

But Coach Duggs got GREEDY before the game reached half time. And the gamble backfired tremendously for him and Kyle, a Heisman Hopeful.

For the majority of the second half, it was a back-and-forth affair. The teams traded punches drive in and drive out, and a 68-yard Notre Dame TD gave the Fighting Irish a 38-34 lead in the fourth quarter. But as we've seen in games past, Chaz Kyle has a LeBron/MJ "switch" to him. When everything is on the line, he and Coach Duggs deliver.

The Fighting Irish cut its deficit back to three and then played good enough defense to get one last shot via a potential Hail Mary with two seconds left. All Coach Duggs could do was sit back and watch.

An instant classic in South Bend, and just like that, USC is now 8-0 in the regular season. Up next for Coach Duggs is a game on Wednesday night vs. No. 23 Arizona, which could turn into a doubleheader as things come down to the wire.
