If You Didnt Watch The Jinx, Binge Watch It Immediately
I’m not saying binge watch all 6 episodes this weekend. I’m not saying tonight after you go home from work. I’m saying go do it right now. Go home early from the office. Blow off all your classes. Ignore any and all responsibility today and bang out the best 6 episodes of TV in a long time. All things considered, I gotta call the Jinx finale one of the best final episodes of any TV show ever. As a matter of fact, given the circumstances, I think I gotta call it the best ever. The final 5-10 minutes was probably the most enthralling scene I’ve watched. It was legit jaw dropping, gasping for air sorta stuff. Its Serial with a conclusion. It was so good that even a real life spoiler – Robert Durst being charged with murder yesterday – couldnt even ruin the finale.
The final ending was jarring and abrupt, which really was perfect in the moment. Left the audience going “Holy shit” perfectly. But now there is so much more to talk about I’m praying theres some sort of 7th episode. An epilogue or an addendum of some sort. Fuck, I need an entire documentary on this documentary. Because to be honest right now, some of the practices they employed making this mini series seems like it could have almost been criminal. Or at least very fucked up morally. The New York Times Article (warning: big spoiler in the title) says that Jarecki and his crew have been working with police since 2013. They say there was some concern about how much they worked with police, meaning that if they cooperated too early, they themselves could be considered law enforcement and then anything Bob Durst said on camera could possibly be considered “inadmissible.” But if they weren’t cooperating, well then it seems like they were just letting a murderer run around free. And the thought that some of this footage just magically appeared and they never even knew they had it is bullshit. So many real life wrinkles and new storylines that I need to know about. Cannot wait to see this new trial unfold. Dont be surprised if ol’ billionaire Bobby has a few more tricks up his sleeve.
Kinda crazy that in a matter of just months Serial and The Jinx came out. Two true crime type of docu-series that have impacted the actual investigations (one much more so than the other) that came out literally back to back, one on the heels of the other. Cool stuff. Also starting to think we should just let certain filmmakers and podcast creators be cops since I think they might be better at their jobs than they are. Anyway, be on the lookout for a podcast or 2 about the Jinx the way we did for Serial. And like I said if you hadn’t watched this at all, binge it ASAP. Most episodes are like 45 minutes, you can get through it in a night.
