Joe Maddon Says He Is Taking The Team To "Cubs University", In A Crazy Coincidence "Cubs University" Shirts Now On Sale
(SOURCE) MESA, Ariz. — The wheels keep spinning in Joe Maddon‘s head, though he admitted Sunday the idea of Cubs University is only in the incubation stage. “It’s going to fly,” he said. “We’ll get it out there. We’re working on the T-shirt right now. Eventually you’re going to see it in team stores and university gift shops everywhere.” Maddon announced the concept Saturday, referring to the “collegiate” atmosphere in camp as “The Cubs University … a liberal arts education in baseball.” One day later, Maddon said he has received positive reaction to his idea on Twitter.
So what does the T-shirt look like? “We’re working on it right now,” he said. “I don’t have a strong concept of what it’s supposed to look like, so I’m looking for ideas. I’m an ideas guy, although the Cousin Eddie decal was my mental creation.” The Cousin Eddie decal is a design on Maddon’s RV, which is named after the wacky character from the “Vacation” movies.
But the Cubs University concept has already caught on in the clubhouse, even with players who didn’t attend college. “I love it,” Anthony Rizzo said. “It’s true.” Rizzo seems like the kind of guy who would be hanging out on the quad all day with his Frisbee.
