Knicks vs. Sixers Tonight, Which Means Only One Thing: MUST-LOSE for New York.

Facts:

  • January 19th, 2015 … the New York Knicks won a basketball game that actually counted
  • The Knicks are on a one-game winning streak.
  • The Knicks just won their first real game since December 12th.
  • The win against the Pelicans on MLK Day was fun.
  • Madison Square Garden was ALIVE. Yeah, it may have been the same type of alive that the ‘walkers’ are in “The Walking Dead”, but, it still kinda brought back memories of when there was something fun to cheer for.

Fuck all of those bullet points. Play time is over, and it’s time to get serious.

With the win on Monday, the Knicks’ ‘Tankathon’ lead is now down to 2 games over the Timberwolves/2.5 games in front of the Sixers.

Per the lottery odds, the Knicks have a 25% chance of getting the #1 pick — and a 64.3% chance of a Top 3 pick.

The column second-from-the-right does not matter for the Knicks. It’s either the #1 pick or bust. It’s the ONLY pick they have in this year’s draft — which means if they don’t get #1, they are gonna have to draft a long-term project like Emmanuel Mudiay from the Chinese League. I don’t care if this dude is the next Yao Ming, if the Knicks don’t get Okafor: it will be the biggest letdown, for the fans of this franchise, since whiffing on LeBron in 2009. The team traded the next 40 years of draft picks away getting Carmelo and Andrea Bargnani, so, this + the massive cap space they have this off-season = all of the proverbial eggs are in this summer’s proverbial basket.

In addition: earlier this week, the 76ers announced Tony Wroten (arguably their best player this season) has a potentially season-ending knee injury.

This is an act of war.

Whether he’s actually injured, or, this is just Sam Hinkie doing Sam Hinkie things — Philadelphia has moved a fleet of Panzer tanks across the Jahlil Okafor bridge, and is trying to rip the #1 pick from the grasp of the Orange & Blue.

They must be stopped.

There is no room for error…

With the exception of Celtics @ Timberwolves, neither of the Knicks’ two biggest tank competitors look like they’re going to be winning any time soon. What this means is that tonight’s Knicks @ 76ers game has MASSIVE long-term implications — not only in the standings, but, the super-important tie-breaker as well.

There are a couple of things going the Knicks’ way…

1) MATH.

The Knicks have had records this year of:

  • 1-1
  • 2-4
  • 3-9
  • 4-16
  • 5-25
  • and now… 6-36

Guess what that means, Philly? The Knicks are going to lose their next 13 games and you can’t do anything to stop it because numbers don’t lie. 7-49 here we come.

2) The Commissioner.

“It’s completely random now and they outsource an agency to do the drawing” my ass.

The Knicks did it in 1985, and they’re going to do it again. Adam Silver knows how much New York City having a competitive teams means to the league — in terms of $$$$$$ — and as long as the Knicks do end up finishing the season with the worst record in the league: I will be god damned if he doesn’t Darth Sidious this draft lottery, like his master before him…

In all seriousness, though, Langston Galloway needs to chill out. Like, I get the whole “this is what I do for a living … and i’m trying to make it  as a pro basketball player … so im gonna play my ass off every single night” thing…

…so, before you go all “Linsanity” on us and single-handily win 5 straight games for the team … would you please mind waiting a day or two, so Phil Jackson can trade you?

Can’t believe the season has come to this, IN JANUARY … Just two years after the almost-identical team was competing for a title.

Save us, Jahlil Okafor Kenobi, you are our only hope…
