Okay so we might (heavy emphasis on MIGHT) have some light at the end of the tunnel when it comes to the schedule for major championships in 2020. I emphasis MIGHT because who the hell knows what's gonna happen with the coronavirus. I've seen reports that the PGA Tour is planning to pick up the season in mid-June (with no fans) which feels HIGHLY optimistic.
Anyway. Provided that things settle down from a GLOBAL PANDEMIC point of view, the 2020 majors and Ryder Cup would be scheduled as follows:
PGA Championship at Harding Park August 6th-9th
US Open at Winged Foot September 17th-20th
Open Championship at St. George's: CANCELLED
Ryder Cup at Whistling Straits September 25th-27
Masters at Augusta National November 12th-15th
Pretty wild stuff. I gotta be honest, a fall Masters would incredible. Augusta in the fall would be BEAUTIFUL as demonstrated here by Frankie Borrelli
Not to mention that'd mean two Masters in the span of 5 months.
I will say, the US Open at Winged Foot in September seems the most..........optimistic. By far. Over the last couple of weeks New York City and the surrounding areas have become the epicenter of the coronavirus. It's an absolute nightmare for everyone involved and it's hard to think about it being over even relatively soon. So it seems nearly impossible to think they'd be holding a major championship at Winged Foot in just a few months but hey who knows. Well nobody knows and that's the scary part. It would be interesting to see players flying from New York directly to Wisconsin for the Ryder Cup. Again, and I can't say this enough, everything you see in regards to this new schedule should come with an unspoken "maybe". Not even the smartest infectious disease experts in the world know where this thing is headed and for how long. Although it is nice to have a little bit of hope that sports might return one day. False hope? Maybe but it's better than nothing.
