Bird Watching - June Brings Big Schedule For The O's

Standings

Not much to report from Birdland this week. They started their road trip dropping 4 of 5, only to reel off four straight wins before losing the series finale to the Rangers, finishing their road trip at 5-5. Their 30-28 record is good enough for second place in the A.L. East right now. The O’s just need to stay within striking distance of the Blue Jays (never thought I’d say that.) They also have the best record out of all the Barstool baseball teams, suck it losers.

J.J. Hardy

Hey James Jerry, where’d the power go bro? Don’t get me wrong, I’m fine with his average up around .300 when he’s a lifetime .260 hitter, just wondering when we’ll get our first Hardy Party of the year? 77 bombs over the past three seasons and none this year? Not sure what’s up with Hardy but hopefully he gets his power back soon.

Tillman pulled

Chris Tillman

Not quite sure what’s up will the ace of the Orioles but he needs to get it together quick. Chris Tillman left the game against the Rangers last night without recording an out in the second inning. Second time in four starts he’s done that, and his last five starts have been very up and down. Tillman has really, really struggled early in games, allowing 14 runs in the first inning, and 13 in the second inning of games this year.

Just look at his last 5 starts…

Tillman starts

Some people have said that they think he is hurt and trying to fight through the injury. Trying to fight through an injury is one thing, being hurt and not saying anything and hurting the team is another. If he’s hurt he needs to quit trying to be a hardass and say it. No shame in taking a start off. An ERA over 5 isn’t going to cut it. Cut the shit and pitch like we all know you can or go on the DL.

Upcoming Schedule

The Orioles have played a wacky schedule so far, with 35 games on the road and only 23 at home. Not sure what’s up with that but I know they will enjoy playing 18 of their next 24 at home. Bad news is they have only averaged 3.3 runs a game at home so far, good for worst in the majors. On the other hand, their bats have been on fire lately, scoring over six runs a game in their last five games. Seems like almost everyone is seeing and hitting the ball well, shit even David Lough hit one out.

The O’s return home tonight to face the Athletics who are probably the best team in the A.L. Oakland has a crazy good run differential but that doesn’t bother me. Good chance we see super prospect Kevin Gausman this series too, kid’s gonna be special. It’s a big series for the Birds and OPACY should be rocking especially hard on Saturday night because it’s Manny Machado bobblehead night. Special shout out to the person who gets one for me, hit me up if you can hook it.

Manny Bobblehead

(This is a terrible looking bobblehead, not sure when Manny turned white, still need one though.)

The Red Sox come into town next, not going to waste my time talking about this series because the Orioles will sweep them outta town, just leave our dugout phones alone Big Sloppy. If only Barstool had a Red Sox blogger I could bet on the series with…oh well. Good chance the Orioles go 4-2 over this stretch.

Look for the bats to stay hot and the pitching to improve. Tough few series ahead, but I’m confident the Orioles will continue to play well.

PS: Props to Bud Norris for taking a liner off the forearm, rocking a bitchin scar too, seams and all.
