"We Fucked Up...It's Not Fucking Good Enough To Say Sorry" - Evan Gattis On The Cheating Astros Just Days After Posting a "Snitches Get Stitches" Mike Fiers Glass

Former Astros DH, catcher, and lumberjack Evan Gattis went on The Athletic's podcast "755 is Real" and gave a pretty legitimate apology for what he and the 2017 Astros did and how they deserve everything coming to them. Means next to nothing now considering it's April, but if this came from the likes of Alex Bregman, Jose Altuve, or Carlos Correa initially I imagine the baseball world would be feel a little differently about how this was all handled. This was the way to go about it. Instead of course those assholes chose to ignore questions, read from scripts, and attack those who accused them. Yeah not the best rout in my mind, but to each their own! Here's what Gattis said from the NY Post article today.

Gattis, a catcher and designated hitter on that World Series championship squad, says that players “got so f–king caught up” in the sign-stealing scheme “that we f–ked up” and they deserve whatever scorn they have been receiving from fans and opponents across MLB.

“Everybody wants to be the best player in the f–king world, man…and we cheated that, for sure, and we obviously cheated baseball and cheated fans,” Gattis said on The Athletic’s “755 is Real” podcast. “Fans felt duped. I feel bad for fans.

“I’m not asking for sympathy or anything like that. If our punishment is being hated by everybody forever, just like, whatever. I don’t know what should be done, but something had to f–king be done. I do agree with that, big-time. I do think it’s good for baseball that we’re cleaning it up. … And I understand that it’s not f–king good enough to say sorry. I get it.”

Like I said, pretty good. It continues the trend of players who are no longer with the organization that have issued real apologies. Gattis actually announced in this interview that he's done playing baseball so maybe that helped with the courage to own up to it.

I will say this does come 5 days after Gattis tweeted this "snitches get stitches" glass of Mike Fiers. That's...odd.

He then backtracked the next day and explained why he tweeted it in the first place. He called it funny and that he has no ill will towards the whistle blower Fiers. I might have taken these next two tweets for value if they came right after but it's clear he saw the backlash the next morning and tried to save face.

And now he's out here doing this podcast. I'm just really confused and I think Gattis is too. He also isn't playing anymore so he won't have to face any of the backlash whenever we do resume playing baseball whether it's in 2020 or 2021.

I did, however, love this jab from this mom that he sucked in 2017 despite cheating.

Gattis appeared in 84 games for the Astros in 2017, with 12 homers and a .767 OPS in 325 plate appearances. He said his mother recently joked to him, “Were you deaf? Could you hear it? Because you didn’t really do that good” that season.

Mamma Gattis is okay in my book.
