Cops Shut Down a Porn Video Store's Curbside Service

Source - After a citizen complaint to police, an X-rated video has stopped offering curbside service during the state’s coronavirus shutdown.

Further, The Green Door Video-Erotic Boutique, 2610 W. Farmington Road in West Peoria, has closed completely, according to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office.

Early this week, the sheriff’s office received a complaint that though the business had closed to foot traffic, a sign there offered curbside service.

The business’ Facebook page includes posts declaring a right to stay open as a curbside service during the state’s stay-at-home order. A March 23 post stated, “The Green Door has not closed its doors in over 40 years. However, in the event of a national pandemic, we do NOT fall under the blanket of ESSENTIAL BUSINESS. But just because the doors are locked, does not mean we are still not available. If you need something from us and you know exactly what it is, you can give us a call ... and we will do what the restaurants are doing and bring it out to your car.” ...

[A]  deputy visited The Green Door and talked to a manager, who said he thought curbside service was permitted.

“He stated he believed he could still operate since he sells FDA-approved items,” the deputy wrote in his report. “I informed (the manager) this was not the case.”

Listen, I've been totally on board with being a good citizen and neighbor. I've been obeying all the guidelines put out by federal and state government. I want people to be as careful as the next guy. But this is a bridge too far.

How is The Green Door Video-Erotic Boutique NOT an essential business, operating in responsible manner and serving the public good? There are people who need their goods and services every bit as much as the grocery stores and pharmacies. I mean, where do you expect their clientele to get their pornography, sex toys, lotions and whatnot? The internet? Please.

Customers who frequent adult video stores in 2020 might be sad, lonely, Luddite technophobes and the last of a dying breed we didn't realize still exist. But they're people too. Fellow Americans with the same right to rent "Goodwill Humping" "Game of Bones: Winter is Cumming" or "League of Extrahorny Gentlemen" as the rest of are to get coffee from the drive-thru.

Besides, the porn store is a shared experience you simply cannot get online. It's a sense of community. As you go through the shelves, trying to decide between "Hairy Porker and the Sorcerer's Bone" or "Star Whores: The Rise of Skywanker" (I can do this all day), it fills the senses in a way a virtual experience never could. The muffled voices of your fellow shut ins. The greenish glow of the 1970s florescent lighting and neon signs. The smell of old bodily fluids and hopelessness.

All these people ask for is the comfort of that in these difficult and challenging times. Please don't take that away from them in their hour of need. Besides, Covid-19 won't kill any of The Green Door's customers before suicide will.
