Customs Agent (Trying To Use His Job As A Cover) Is Caught At Atlanta Airport With 40 Pounds Of Cocaine

ATLANTA — A Customs and Border Protection Officer smuggled more than a dozen bricks of cocaine from the U.S. Virgin Islands into the United States after he was allowed to bypass security because of his job, prosecutors said Tuesday.

The scheme was foiled after Ivan Van Beverhoudt's flight arrived at Atlanta's airport and a K-9 sniffed out the drugs in his carry-on luggage on Jan. 10, officials said in a news release. The bricks of cocaine amounted to 17.8 kilograms (39.2 pounds), authorities said.

One of the longstanding inner battles I actually have with myself is whether I'd be a cool cop or not. I like to think I'd be the type of cop who is pretty relaxed. Things like letting people go without a ticket, eating exclusively pink frosted sprinkle donuts, cracking witty jokes left and right, growing out my mustache - you know - cool cop things.

However, I know for a fact, the power would get to my head within mere seconds of getting the job. I'd be abusing my power all over the place. Turning on my siren to bypass traffic, handing out tickets like candy, etc etc. I'd be on the power trip of a lifetime, that's just who I am.

Speaking of abusing power, this Ivan Van Beverhoudt character is a textbook example. This bastard was just yoinking the white stuff like it was nothing. There's no way this is the first time doing this, either. No one has the confidence to start out their drug-trafficking career with a huge score like this. I'm no cocaine expert - hard drugs are a hard no for this guy - but that seems like just a preposterous amount of money.

“This officer allegedly abused his office to engage in criminal conduct,” said U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak. “Federal law enforcement officers take an oath to uphold the law. When an officer violates that oath, he or she will be investigated and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

He probably had a good thing going too. Lots of money, free coke, a coverup - that is until he forgot about drug-sniffing dogs.

It seems like a pretty important detail to forget about. Who would've possibly guessed that the dog trained to sniff out drugs was able to find 40lbs of coke in this guy's bag? Certainly not me. The appeal of being a drug dealer was never there for me. I'd rather work some shitty retail job than risk getting caught slinging dope.

This guy had it all; a solid job in the gorgeous U.S. Virgin Islands. Yet he threw it all away because of drugs. Think about that. This man must've been making an absolute fortune if he was dumb enough to risk his real-life job for his side hustle. At the end of the day, you just have to respect the hustle. He may big a big dumb idiot but I always respect the hustle.
