Weymouth Drug Legend George Jung Freed from Jail
Boston Mag – The infamous George Jung, whose life as a cocaine dealer was brought to the big screen when Johnny Depp portrayed him in Blow, has been released from jail, according to reports. TMZ captured a photo of Jung, a Weymouth native who spent decades in jail for his role in bringing large amounts of cocaine to the United States in the 1970s and 1980s, as he left a minimum-security prison in New Jersey this week. Jung—known as “Boston George”—was being held at FCI Fort Dix, a minimum-security federal correctional institution with about 4,600 inmates. The Massachusetts-born drug dealer is now 71-years-old.
Alright, Weymouth! What a great day to be from the Dirty W! First my stomping grounds of South Weymouth… where I was the Luke Perry of the 02190… was named the 7th Most Irish Neighborhood in America, and now this. Now our other famous citizen, the legend who basically invented the US cocaine industry, is back on the streets where he belongs. One can only hope Jung does the right thing, gets his ass out of Jersey and goes directly back to Weytown. Grabs a sub at Olympic Pizza. Maybe takes in a movie at the Cameo. Possibly walks around the corner to Warren’s to have his first beer as a free man in decades. Hell, I’ll even buy it for him, one Weymouth celebrity to another. Once I’m done organizing his Welcome Home parade. It’s the least I can do for the man who put us on the map. Because I’m just busting with Wildcat Pride right now. Free at last, free at last! Thank God-a-mighty, George Jung is free at last! @JerryThornton1
