Trump Played The Song 'Macho Man' In India Today And Everyone Went Bananalands About It

From Newsweek:

Village People's "Macho Man" blared as President Donald Trump entered a stadium packed with people welcoming him to India.

Trump kicked off a 36-hour trip to the country with a visit to the former home of independence leader Mohandas Gandhi before heading to a rally in Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on Monday.

More than 100,000 people filled the world's largest cricket stadium, which is also known as Motera Stadium, as almost everyone in attendance donned a white cap with the name of the event "Namaste, Trump" ("Welcome, Trump") written on it, the Associated Press reported.

The crowd danced to numerous songs from Trump's campaign rally playlist as they awaited the president's arrival—but it was Village People's 1978 disco hit "Macho Man" that played as he walked into the stadium.

If you scroll through Twitter it appears to be THEE big takeaway of the event with all sorts of hot takes from both sides of the isle, like this doozy:

Everyone seems blown away at the supposed surreality of that scene, or invested in some sort of 'deeper meaning' that playing the song 'Macho Man' sent… Whereas I simply don't understand the clown-show circus around it.

The Village People get asses shaking & hips quaking wherever you are, whatever you're doing. Bored at a wedding reception and that comes on? I dare you to try & keep your glutes from shifting around to the beat. You can't. That's what this is all about right? Groovin' with our nation's second-largest trading partner after China?!

Anywho, as per usual an internet mob then headed to the Village People's online village (Facebook) demanding the group ban Trump from using their songs, because screaming at people on the web is very effective at getting people to see your side of things.

Due to the rabble-rabbling, the construction worker, policeman, Native American, biker, soldier, cowboy, and leatherman all put their fun hats together to release a refreshingly rational response:

TO OUR FANS:

We have received numerous requests demanding that we prevent or ban President Donald Trump’s use of our songs, particularly “Y.M.C.A.” and “Macho Man.”

With the latest use of “Macho Man” in India, we are being inundated and can no longer remain silent.

Since our music is not being used for a specific endorsement, the President’s use is “perfect[ly]” legal.

He has remained respectful in his use of our songs and has not crossed the line; if he or any other candidate were to use any of our songs in a manner that would suggest our endorsement, or in a promotional advertisement, that would cross the line.

Like millions of Village People fans worldwide, the President and his supporters have shown a genuine like for our music.

Our music is all-inclusive and certainly everyone is entitled to do the YMCA dance, regardless of their political affiliation. Having said that, we certainly don't endorse his use of our music.

Other Presidents who have visited India include Eisenhower, Nixon, Carter, Clinton, Bush (W), and Obama. Rumor has it Nixon played the lesser known 1985 Village People song Sex Over The Phone even though he was there in 1969. Amazing.

To close this out, a moment of remembrance for the truest Macho Man of them all.
