Jets Likely To Hire Chan Gailey As Their OC
No we chan’t
Alright so now that we got our black head coach and our black quarterback, time to sign the guy who’s been out of football for 2 years. Can I get a Super Bowl guarantee!?
Just kidding, just kidding. Sort of. Not really. But I do kinda like the Todd Bowles signing. I know he sounds similar to Rex Ryan but I dont think we needed a huge departure undoing what little good Rex had done for this franchise. I’m hoping Bowles can continue the defensive success this team has had, and the right OC could compliment him and help develop the offensive side of this team. And its all but a done deal that Bowles is bringing in Gailey. No matter where he ended up, he was brining Gailey with him.
I, for one, am not too pumped about it. And to be honest I cant understand why so many Jets fans are excited about it. All last night on twitter I had Jets fans chirping me about how great of a signing it is. For me, I dont want a 65 year old dude who’s been sitting on his couch for the past 2 years. Period. That is enough of a deal breaker for me. But the rhetoric everyone seems to be repeating to me is “He was terrible as a head coach, but he’s been a successful OC.” Which, of course, I understand. We’re hiring him as an OC and he should be judged as such. But I’m still just not thrilled with his resume as an OC either. People seem to be absolutely enamored with him over his time with the Bills. Jets fans just love saying how he “made Ryan Fitzpatrick serviceable” like thats equivalent to a Super Bowl ring or something. I’ve heard him described as Chip Kelly before Chip Kelly was a thing and I honestly just cant buy into that. If he’s the offensive wizard Jets fans are describing to me he wouldnt have been out of football entirely for 2 years. And I’m not about to get excited for what he did with the Dolphins 15 years ago. To me he’s an old AFC East retread who is going to try to come in here and run a spread type of offense and try to maximize what Geno Smith has to offer and that sounds like a pretty shitty plan to me.
Of course, the OC doesnt matter at all (and really neither does the Head Coach, or literally any position on the field at all) until you have a quarterback. Doesnt matter who you bring in if Geno Smith is still under center. But forgive me for not being optimistic about the old dude who’s spent the past 2 years gardening who’s been constantly in and out of the league simply because he did OK with some shitty guys on Buffalo so now he’s gonna do OK with the shitty guys on my team.
