Sons Of Anarchy - Suits Of Woe
The final ride of Sons finally kicked it into high gear with the Jax, Juice, Gemma triangle. All things considered, it could have been the best episode of the entire series. If you havent watched yet, stop now.
Unbelievable performance from Charlie Hunnam last night. This is a show that often gets accused of being a soap opera for men and there’s a lot of people out there that think its over the top and ridiculous. And a lot of that criticism is true in some ways. You’re not gonna see any acting awards handed out for the cast of Sons. But last night was not one of those nights. Jax, Juice, and Nero all put on some incredible performances. Jax’s first scene in Stockton with Juice begging for the truth about Tara was as powerful as it gets. Theo Rossi’s performance as he gave Jax the truth despite knowing that it would doom him was equally as moving. And all of it paled in comparison to Jax having his moment with Nero admitting he still loved Gemma and asking why she did it. It was like his “How come he don’t love me?” Fresh Prince moment.
Me and Kmarko briefly talked about Sons last night on MailTime. I wish I had known last night would have arguably been the best episode of the series, because that changed a lot of things. We talked about how much of a shitshow the final season had been up until last night and how we both didn’t like the story line with Abel being the key to uncovering the Gemma lie. I still stand by that. I think a 5 year old putting it all together and telling Jax was a stupid way to unveil the biggest betrayal in the history of Sons of Anarchy. But that being said, it led to an incredible scene with Jax coming to Juice as a father asking if his son was delusional or tormented. So, just like all the gun fights and the insane amount of murder and the outlaw/police love affairs and all the other stuff you just take with a grain of salt with this show, I’m doing that with the Abel story line.
And as for the feeling that Season 7 has been a shitshow, last night was nice and tight. Despite being almost like 2 hours including a completely ridiculous and out of place Jazz music car chase montage, the story line didn’t waver. This episode was completely focused on the Jax, Juice, and Gemma, Tara saga. The story line we all care about and wanted to see unfold. The first 10 episodes with a thousand different black gangbangers and 2 different sects of the Aryan Brotherhood, Jury’s unknown son, a dead preacher, a Chibbs love affair and all that shit was all over the map. It all played a part – I know. All that stuff in a roundabout way led to the Asian tension, the bloodbath at Diosa, the death of Bobby, and Jax’s future as President in flux. But it was like 15 hours of scattered TV to lay the foundation for last night’s Suits of Woe. And somehow, I think last night’s episode made it all worth it. Sutter packed so much into that one episode it was like a resounding “FINALLY” from viewers. The wrongful death of Lin, the confession from Juice, the palpable fear from Gemma all episode, and her goodbye to Nero. Unser finally turning his back on the club, and the walls closing in on Jax as club president. Its everything we’ve cared about since day 1 on Sons. With just 2 episodes to go, Sutter finally got us back on track and hit us hard with revelations, deaths, and foreshadowing that sets up the final 2 episodes to conclude this saga we’ve all followed for so long.
I think Juice’s words are going to resonate for everyone involved in Samcro – “Its too late for all of us.” I dont think this ends well for Jackson Teller or anyone in the club. Too much damage has been done. Its too late for everyone.
