Jimmy Rollins Rejects Trade To The Mets

Jimmy-Rollins

PHOENIX Now this would have made an interesting pairing: The Mets, in need of a shortstop, spoke with the Philadelphia Phillies about acquiring Jimmy Rollins in a trade, sources told ESPNNewYork.com. The pursuit since has been dismissed because Rollins does not want to leave Philadelphia, a source added. Rollins, as a longtime Phillie, has full no-trade protection. He will earn $11 million next season, then is eligible for free agency. Rollins, of course, authored the infamous “Team to Beat” line in 2007, when the Phillies overcame a seven-game deficit with 17 games to play to catch the Mets.

Jesus Christ almighty did we dodge a bullet here. I mean if it wasn’t for Jimmy Rollins having 10 and 5 rights he’d probably be the Mets starting shortstop if it were up to Sandy and the Wilpons. That, my friends, is not something I could stomach. That would be absolutely unbearable. Not only because Rollins is 35 and fading but also because I despise him with all of my heart. Such a goddam asshole. And yes most of that hatred comes from a place of jealousy when the Phillies kept edging out the NL East while the Mets consistently collapsed. Yes it comes from him stealing David Wright’s MVP in 2007. Yes, if he was my shortstop in his prime I probably would have loved his cocky swagger. But hes on the Phillies and I’m a Mets fan so I hate his guts. There’s a lot of guys from the Yankees or the Braves or the Phillies I would gladly take in a Mets uniform, but Jimmy Rollins aint one of em.

Personal bias aside, These moves for aging vets the Mets seem to be interested in is infuriating. You’d think this team lost in game 7 of the World Series this year the way management is acting. Like adding one more veteran bat here and there are the final pieces we’re missing to the puzzle. Its like they dont wanna add some young, up and coming bats to go with the stable of young arms. You can’t keep putting band aids on the lineup. You can’t rely on some short term contracts with guys on their last legs. They’ve acquired some incredible pitching that could potentially perform for the next 5, 7 years. Turn your attention to some young bats and try to build a long term, sustainable winner. Cuban defectors, trade for young proven talent and open the wallets. Get out of here with this Jimmy Rollins type of shit. You find a diamond in the rough once in a while like Bartolo Colon, but thats the exception, not the rule.
