Video: Michael Kay Calls Francesa A Liar In Rant About His Credibility With The YES Network
Whoa! Number 7 Michael Kay is getting all fired up today! This is some WWF shit! Cutting a promo like he and Francesa are about to square off in a Hell in the Cell at a Pay Per View. Now we’re cooking with some gas. It took Kay like a zillion years to finally have some respect for himself and put together one of these rants but better late than never.
As for the actual issue at hand here, who knows what really went on with YES. Do I think YES was unhappy with Mike siding with Arod and bashing the Yankees mercilessly? Yes, I do. Do I think that was the only reason their simulcast deal ended? No I dont. I think he probably costs a shit ton of money and I would imagine, at this point in his career, Numbah One isn’t always the easiest to work with. But I absolutely think there was some element about having control over the person on their airwaves. Now, I dont think that means that the YES network literally controls Kay and Lagreca. Like they give them a list of the things they can and cannot talk about. I just think these 2 guys are less likely to ever blow up the Yankees in a way that Francesa would. I think Francesa is one of the most arrogant, bulletproof guys on the radio and he knows it. So he doesnt care about any thing or anyone when hes doing his show. No relationship or contract is ever gonna stop him from saying whatever he wants. And I think Kay and Lagreca just arent that volatile or unpredictable. I dont think they say “You cant criticize the Yankees” but I think they can just rest assured that Kay and Lagreca will never go nuclear and burn bridges the way Mike would. Its not “editorial control” or “state run radio.” Its just that YES knows Kay and Lagreca aren’t explosive like that.
As for the ratings stuff, I have no idea about that. I find it almost impossible to believe more people are tuning into YES to watch Kay than Mike. There has gotta be a zillion people out there just like me who havent even turned on YES once since they split up. But what do I know. If Kay and Lagreca are getting those ratings, good for them. Maybe a little competition for Mike wouldn’t be a bad thing.
